News of data breach, security leak and system vulnerability incidents have been occurring almost every day in this year. Unfortunately, here comes another BIG ONE!  On a dark web marketplace, someone is selling millions of Gmail and Yahoo accounts. These accounts include personal information such as usernames, emails and their passwords in a plain text format.

In the last few months, we have heard of several security breach incidents of Yahoo which happened in the span of last few years. So, the news about Yahoo should not come to someone as a surprise! But generally Gmail is known as one of the most secure email service providers. Then again, it is out of their reach when account details are being stolen due to a third party breach.

According to a HackRead report, the hacker, going by the online handle ‘SunTzu583’, has listed a vast number of cracked email packages on a series of dark websites.

  • Pricing for Yahoo accounts starts at 0079 BTC (USD 10.75)
  • Pricing for Gmail Accounts starts at  0219 BTC (USD 28.24)

Now the question arises, is the account data that are being sold authentic?

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to check the authenticity for every single account. But those data reportedly has been checked on data breach notification platforms like Hacked-DB and Haveibeenpwned.

Note: If you are worried about your account security or just want to be sure of it, head over to Haveibeenpwned website. Submit your email address and submit pwned? button. Result will show your account has been breached or not.

Safe to say, it is high time that you change your password, especially if you have a Yahoo account! While changing password, please stay away from re-using old password. Furthermore, activate Multi-factor authentication method wherever it is possible.
